Reports indicate that the New Zealand government has announced a substantial increase in visa fees across all categories. Beginning October 1, applicants for work, visitor, or study visas will need to adhere to the new fee structure. This hike is intended to foster a more sustainable immigration system.
Under the revised fee structure, the cost of a student visa has risen from NZD 300 to NZD 485. This change will significantly affect Indian students, who represent 17 percent of international students in New Zealand, making them the second-largest group after China.
For those planning to visit New Zealand for tourism, the new visa fee is set at NZD 300, up from the previous cost of NZD 190.
Authorities have stated that the increased fees are designed to cover the processing costs of visa applications and to manage higher-risk cases. This adjustment is expected to make the immigration system more self-sufficient and less dependent on local taxpayers.
