Uttarkashi, July 1: The Char Dham Yatra resumed on July 1st following a 24-hour suspension that was imposed due to a devastating cloudburst near Barkot. The incident triggered a massive landslide, resulting in the tragic death of two workers and leaving seven others missing.
The cloudburst caused significant disruption on the Barkot-Yamunotri route, one of the key stretches of the pilgrimage in Uttarkashi district. In response, authorities halted the Yatra temporarily to ensure the safety of pilgrims and workers involved in restoration efforts.
According to officials, repair work on the landslide-affected Barkot-Yamunotri road was completed on June 29. The road has since been made safe and smooth for travel, allowing the authorities to lift the suspension and resume the pilgrimage.
Rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas as efforts continue to trace the missing workers.
